A quiet, small town, Aspatria is located between the Lake District and the Solway Coast. It was home of famed Cumbrian Artist Sheila Fell and has an interesting Grade 2 listed church, St Kentigern’s. There’s room for kids to enjoy themselves at Memorial Park. It’s also home to the Lake District Creamery, don’t miss their factory shop. Sealy Beds whose products find their way into homes across the UK and wider afield are manufactured in Aspatria.
If you like golf or fishing, check out Brayton Park with its nine hole, par 32 golf course. Staying guests can enjoy its private lake, offering views of the Northern Fells and the Scottish Hills. It is a naturally stocked eight acre, ‘old English’ Carp fishing lake with two islands. It’s the only one of its kind in Great Britain.
The town has a strong community spirit which resulted in it winning the Best Small Town Category in the Cumbria in Bloom Awards in 2016, 2017 and the RHS Gold Award for 2018. The community also comes together for its annual gala in the summer, the Christmas lights switch on and the annual music festival in July always has a great range of bands. You can also relax, on a sunny day, in St Mungos Park or explore the many independent stores located in the town centre.
