Whinlatter Forest
Create your own adventure at England’s only true mountain forest.
Whinlatter is home to stunning views, fantastic forest walking trails, exhilarating mountain bike trails, spectacular running trails, Siskins Café, WildPlay adventure play area, Gruffalo children’s trail, GoApe Treetop Adventure & Forest Segway, Cyclewise bike hire & shop. There is even a Tramper to hire for those with limited mobility.
Whinlatter Forest is managed by Forestry England and is a great day out for all ages.
The forest has walking trails to suit all abilities, with views across Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwent Water, Skiddaw and Grisedale Pike.
The mountain bike trails make full use of the stunning setting and put the mountain back into mountain biking! A variety of graded trails are available to suit all levels of skill and experience.
Two waymarked running trails provide stunning scenery, a higher calorie burn and increased mental well-being.
Families can enjoy WildPlay, the adventure playground, or follow the Gruffalo trail to find the giant wooden sculptures of the Gruffalo and other characters.
Swing through the trees on the Go-Ape tree top or if heights aren’t your thing, try the Forest Segways.
Whinlatter is a National Red Squirrel Reserve and home to the Lake District Osprey Project from April to August each year, with an exhibition about the project and volunteers to help interpret the live camera pictures of the nearby nest.
