Solway Coast Cycling Festival in Silloth

The Solway Coast Cycling Festival is a brand new event that takes place on the beautiful Silloth Green on Saturday 11 September 2021 from 10am to 4pm. The day after the Tour of Britain comes to Cumbria, this celebration of all things cycling is your chance to explore the beautiful Solway Coast by bike on one of our guided rides, follow our way-marked routes at your own pace, or simply come along to Silloth town centre and watch or join in one of the many activities planned. We’ve got free kids cycling skills sessions, smoothie bikes, grass-track cycle racing and lots more. There is also the opportunity to bring along your bike to our check and fix tent where you can get it tuned-up by the experts from Carlisle Community Cycle Hub.

10am to 4pm on Silloth Green

In addition to the many activities planned we have some great exhibitors at the Festival including Carlisle Cycling Association, which is a collaborative of cycling clubs from across North and West Cumbria, formed in 2018 to with the aim of promoting cycling across the region and running events at the newly opened Carlisle Cycle Circuit in Harraby. Interested in joining a local cycling club? Want to find out more about cycling opportunities for those with disabilities? Or simply interested in finding out what the spectacular Solway Coast has to offer cyclists? We can help! Plus make sure that you visit one of Silloth’s great cafes or pick up some fish and chips for lunch and enjoy the spectacular views over the Solway Firth to Scotland.

Grass Track Cycle Racing  (12pm start)

Organised by Carlisle Cycling Association and Beacon Wheelers Cycle Club, the action-packed sport of Grass Track Cycle Racing is making its debut in Silloth. This is an exciting form of racing where you will see riders battle each other on traditional track bikes with fixed gears and no brakes. It’s a bit like the velodrome racing you’ll see at the Olympics but on grass and it’s quite a spectacle. Many former and current professional cyclists started with this kind of racing so come along and cheer the current crop of riders on.

Grasstrack racing is for experienced track riders only as the bikes have fixed gears and no brakes, so you really need to know what you are doing! But we are also including informal races for children who can ride their normal bikes on the track in between the main races. We are expecting some top class riders from around the country as well as local riders so come and cheer our racers on!

More information and rider registration can be found here on the British Cycling website.

Smoothie Bikes, Exercise Bikes, Kids Activities and Much More…!  Test your cycling skills of our web-enabled exercise bikes or make your own smoothie on one of our smoothie bikes. Have a chat to our great range of exhibitors or get some fish and chips and enjoy the views! We also have some great play and craft activities for younger children with story-telling at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
