Spring in Allerdale

Spring is the perfect time for a visit to Allerdale

Get some fresh air in the Lake District National Park, explore the fabulous Solway Coast or come along to one of our great cultural events such as Cockermouth Daffodil Day or the Words by the Water Literary Festival in Keswick. Allerdale is the Capital of Doing – and Spring is a great time to do it!

Easter egg hunts

For 2020 the National Trust have teamed up with Cadbury to run a number of Easter Egg hunts. There are a number of egg hunts taking place over the Easter weekend including one on the shores of Loweswater and several at Wordsworth House and Garden, Cockermouth.

Get active

Spring is the perfect time to get active and take advantage of the warmer weather. You can head straight for Britain’s Favourite Walk – Helvellyn (get a sneak peak of the summit in 360 degree video here) or explore another of Wainwright’s favourite peaks in the Lake District National Park.

Frontier of the Roman Empire

Head even further North and you hit Hadrian’s Wall. Start (or finish) Britain’s most-popular long distance trail at Bowness-on-Solway. Head back down the coast and visit the Senhouse Roman Museum and the coastal town of Maryport.

Perfect Cockermouth

Wordsworth House and Gardens in Cockermouth opens its doors in March and is a great day out. Make sure you take some time to explore Cockermouth’s historic town centre and take advantage of the great range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants.  The first Saturday of every April in Cockermouth is Daffodil Day. Head along to All Saints Church for music, poetry and guided heritage walks of the town centre.

Solway Coast

If you’re looking for something a bit flatter then a walk or cycle ride along our fabulous Solway Coast is a great option. Route maps and further information can be found by clicking here.  Take a trip to Silloth or visit the nature reserves to the North of Allerdale that form part of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You time

If you’re tired out after all of the walking and cycling then relax and refuel in our of our great pubs, cafes and restaurants. Allerdale also boasts a wide range of local breweries and distilleries, many of which offer guided tours and a chance to sample the local produce.
