Lake District Breweries & Distilleries

It must be the pure Lakeland water that accounts for the smooth beers of Allerdale. They are widely divergent in style but all have that moreish effect

Jennings Brewery and brewery tour, Cockermouth

The Jennings Brothers started brewing in the Lake District way back in 1828. Brewing is still going strong in the pretty town of Cockermouth. Cumberland Ale is particularly recommended. See how it’s brewed in the traditional way on the brewery tour.

The Lakes Distillery, Bassenthwaite

Home of The One Whisky, Gin and Vodka. All are distilled with care and expertise at it’s distillery on the banks of the River Derwent using pure Lake District water. The distillery tour is very informative with samples at the end and dining is the bistro is a delight.

Derwent Brewery, Silloth

Established in 1997, the brewery has produced a range of award winning ales.

Hesket Newmarket Brewery, tour and pub

Home of the legendary ale, Doris’ 90th in this delightful, unspoilt village. The brewery and pub is owned by a cooperative.

Keswick Brewing Company, brewery tours and shop

Beers brewed with live yeast to give distinctive taste and flavour. Tours of the brewery available.

Tractor Shed Brewing, tour and shop, Workington

You may have come across their excellent beers at Solfest and other festivals in the North.
